Flexa is a technology platform that verifies and audits companies’ flexible working policies to provide transparency into what’s on offer for job seekers. Working with companies like Allianz, Esports Technologies, FARFETCH, Elvie, and Crowdcube, we champion employers that offer true flexibility to be found by hundreds of thousands of users.
How did you come up with the idea for the company?
I’ve lived with an autoimmune disease since I was 18 – one that causes a variety of symptoms, including pain that prevents me from walking and makes commuting to an office nearly impossible.
My flare-ups were worse than ever while working in a demanding investment banking position, and I asked my employer if I could work from home one day a week to make things easier. I was released ten days later.
As I found when looking for my next job, it’s hard to tell which employers offer real flexibility. My partner (now also my business partner) Maurice had the same problem, but with the perspective that in his last role he had the benefit of flexibility and wanted to make sure his next job offered the same ways of working. We could both see how difficult it is from a job seeker’s perspective to get a clear sense of what an employer offers.
We knew workers needed and deserved better, and we used our shared experiences to create a new way for people to seek truly flexible jobs. With the technical expertise of our co-founder and CTO, we built the Flexa platform and haven’t looked back since.
How has the company performed during the pandemic?
The pandemic has been a catalyst for employees to reconsider their jobs and what they expect from them. For many, the bottom line is: more flexibility and a better work-life balance. That means we’ve been very busy! As layoffs roll out, the demand for flexible roles has never been greater, and work environments are rapidly evolving in response to this shift. We now have over 400,000 users in 70 countries and almost 150 companies on the platform.
Flexibility has been reimagined far beyond working from home during lockdown. As a result, over the last few years we’ve seen a huge increase in users looking for fully remote roles and an increasing number of companies offering them. Pandemic puppies have also fueled a surge in “dog-friendly” office searches, and workers – rightly – are now expecting better times when it comes to parental leave.
We have also grown as a team and have invested heavily in the development of our product. It is our job to understand what workers want. To help them in their search, it is also our job to find out what companies offer job seekers and if this matches the reality of their work environments.
Flexa is a unique platform (there’s literally no one else doing what we do) and we’re constantly refining our processes and products to ensure we’re the platform that empowers people to discover the future of work.
What can we expect from Flexa in the future?
True flexibility is here to stay. Demand will continue to grow, and as work environments evolve, so will we. We want to become the platform that creates global transparency in the hiring process.
You could be in New York with your dog and move to Paris for a dog-friendly company that encourages you to work from home two days a week… you come to Flexa. We’re on track to have millions of users and thousands of companies in the next two years and become the largest employer branding platform in the world.
