Meet Rory Blundell, CEO of API Management & Security Platform: Gravitee

Gravitee’s focus is on the ability to securely manage synchronous and asynchronous API-based communications. We started in Lille in Northern France in 2016 and have grown rapidly with a real focus on usability and security. Gravitee is very well positioned to take the new generation by storm and that’s what we’re all about.

What makes Gravitee unique?

The API market as a whole emerged between 2000 and 2005 when companies like MuleSoft, Apigee, etc. were formed. This first generation of API platforms solved a business problem; the cloud came. The first generation of integration and API providers created a layer of abstraction that enabled people to unlock the potential of the cloud.

This led to the rise of a second generation – the microservices generation. However, I believe that we are now entering a third generation that is no longer concerned with an architectural principle. It’s about the data it contains. This is where Gravitee is different, we know that it is no longer just about the traditional API request response, but about real-time streaming, more accurate and with more data.

The way we communicate has changed, driven by consumer demand for more accurate and real-time data. Yet organizations still have many more traditional request-response data sources. How do they create, manage, monitor, secure, show and enable the use of these different speeds of this data? Simultaneously with this technological challenge, you have increasing challenges in the regulatory environment and around information security. In this more complex world of diverse technologies and security issues, Gravitee addresses these modern API challenges in a unique way that no other organization in this space addresses.

From a broader business perspective, we really emphasize the customer as an organization. I firmly believe that we can learn as much from our customers as they can from us and that they are at the center of everything we do. The quality of service we offer also comes with a cheaper price, which is a big differentiator.

How has the company performed during the pandemic?

I started at Gravitee two years ago, so the company has grown a lot from two employees and four founders. Gravitee now has over 100 full-time employees in the US, UK, France, Poland, Sweden and Germany to name a few.

At that point we had about 15 customers and now we have over 100 worldwide. We haven’t lost a customer in the last two years and have grown phenomenally in a very short space of time. I think that was driven by this focus on being a leader for this third generation API with streaming and traditional APIs on one secure platform. From revenue to employees to operating countries, our business has fundamentally grown and developed in the past two years.

What can we expect from Gravitee in the future?

The aim is to lead this next API generation. Gravitee can alleviate the challenge organizations face when they have a variety of data types that move at different speeds.

There is no one-size-fits-all way to create, manage, monitor, secure, expose and consume all of this data, and I believe Gravitee has the platform and team to lead the way in this next-generation API . Meet Rory Blundell, CEO of API Management & Security Platform: Gravitee
