Meet Sachin Dev Duggal, Founder of the software development platform: Builder.ai

Builder.ai is a leading AI-powered low-code/no-code app development platform that builds software and apps up to 6x faster and up to 70% cheaper than traditional human teams without requiring users to speak tech .

As the world goes digital, there is a major problem with the massive gap between the software being developed and the number of developers. The idea-to-code problem needs to be solved, and we set out to achieve this through Builder.ai. When we started, we went back to look at how software is made today – what best practices we could find in different industries.

We were fascinated by how Ford worked with an assembly line where cars were made by a small group of people doing everything from the engine to the seats.

We apply this methodology to custom software using our AI-powered assembly line that fuses Lego-like reusable features together, uses automation to reduce human effort, leverages a verified network of experts to greatly expand development capabilities, and produces apps with a near-zero failure rate that are much cheaper and faster than traditional software development.

How did you come up with the idea for the company and what do you think makes this company unique?

Builder.ai started in 2016 after my co-founder and I tried to build a photo sharing app. We thought that being based in San Francisco would make it easy for us to find developers or work with an outsourcing company to help us build the app.

Unfortunately we were wrong and it was a terrible experience. When we realized how difficult it was for us to develop an app, we understood how difficult it is for a small business owner.

My team and I believe technology creates balance, but only when access is available to all. Personally, I don’t want our children to grow up in a world where their influence is limited by their technical abilities. That’s what really drives us – the ability to make a global difference and the idea that we can empower anyone to implement their ideas.

How has the company developed in recent years?

The business is getting real momentum. We’ve increased sales by over 300% and deployed more than 40,000 features to satisfied customers in the last year. We’ve also grown significantly over the past year, more than doubling our employee base with offices in London, India, UAE, Singapore and the US

We just announced our $100 million Series C raise, led by Insight Partners, a New York-based global venture capital and private equity firm. The round, which brings the company’s total funding to $195 million over three rounds, includes participation from existing investors combined with new individual and institutional names including IFC’s WndrCo and Jeffrey Katzenberg.

What can we expect from Builder.ai in the future?

We’re very excited to continue our momentum – scaling the platform to reduce human effort and expanding self-service to allow our SMB customers to go through the build process even faster.

We also have a strong focus on ensuring our clients succeed beyond the code; from advice to the expansion of the marketplace service.
