The Duchess of Sussex has said she is “not interested” in reclaiming the “B word” because she avoids saying it out loud in a podcast devoted to exploring the term.
eghan, in her latest episode of Archetypes called To ‘B’ or not ‘B’?, discussed the origin of the word “bitch” and its “difficult” cousin and how these terms are often used to insult strong-minded brands of women.
The former actress confessed that she “hates this word so much” and hearing it made her “hungry”, and that she chose not to say it, instead saying “B-word” and spelling BITCH only once, in hours-long recording.
“What these people are implying when they use that powerful word is this woman ‘Oh, she’s tough,’ it’s really just a word, or maybe it’s not even is a word, it’s really a codeword for the B-word,” Meghan said.
Writer and comedian Robin Thede, who has embraced the term, told Meghan: “I love that women use this mean phrase as a positive thing…. It’s like, you know, you look amazing.”
But Meghan added after hearing the sketch use the word liberally: “I mean for someone who absolutely hates the word. This makes me angry.
“However, I will say that it’s all really interesting to me about what Robin is saying because, as you might have guessed, I’m not interested in reclaiming the term.
“But the women I respect, the people I love to work with, a lot of them are completely comfortable with that. They want to do it to take power from it.”
When Meghan mentioned the book Bitch: A Revolution To Sex, Evolution And The Female Animal by zoologist Lucy Cooke, she commented reading the title: “I wouldn’t really say the first word. It will call it the B word.
She also revealed that a friend told her that the goal is not “people like you”, but for them to respect you.
“As a woman, my friend tells me, there is a certain point when you accept the fact that not everyone will like you,” the duchess said.

“The goal can’t be that everyone likes you. But the intent might be for them to respect you.”
Meghan describes herself as a “nerd” and said her favorite TV series as a child was the American quiz show Jeopardy!
She said she even received condolences from friends when former host Alex Trebek passed away in 2020 even though she didn’t know him.
The Duchess said: “My obsession with this performance is so deep, friends, when Alex Trebek passed away I started receiving messages of condolences.
“I don’t know him but everyone who knows me knows what Jeopardy means! and its servers are a daily part of my life. “
