Meghan Markle doesn’t want Prince Harry to mend his rift with Charles and William amid fears he may try to return to the UK, a royal expert has said.
The Sussexes have been critical of the royal family and their way of life since moving to the United States in 2020, with Harry regularly speaking to US media about how he had to leave and start a new life with his own family.
They’ll be returning to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and in many ways it seems like the perfect opportunity to put the bad feelings aside.
But royal author Howard Hodgson claimed Meghan has a specific reason why she doesn’t want Harry to get too friendly with the other royals.
She fears this will make Harry want to return to the UK, royal biographer Howard Hodgson said.
“I don’t think Meghan wants it fixed because if it were fixed that could make Harry want to come back and play his part,” he said The sun.
“In a way, Prince Charles doesn’t want a focus in that direction, he wants a straight forward focus on himself, William, George.”
However, another royal expert takes a different view Richard Fitzwilliams saying the Queen will do everything to make Harry and Meghan feel at home and ensure there are no bad feelings.
He told The Sun: “There’s this rift with the Sussexes and it’s really hurt. My own feeling is that the Queen will do whatever it takes to be as generous a hostess as she can.
“Nobody wants a repeat of what happened on the rather extraordinary Commonwealth Day, when the Cambridges and Sussexes actually looked hostile to one another. That’s not going to happen now… I wouldn’t be surprised if there are special gestures to make them feel welcome.”
The Sussexes are flying over from the US with Lilibet, who has never met the Queen in person before, and her older brother Archie.
Saturday also marks Harry and Meghan’s daughter Lilibet’s first birthday, amid speculation the boy could be spending the day with her eponymous great-grandmother.
On Friday, Thanksgiving service will be held at St Paul’s to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee, but it’s unclear if she will attend, and if she does there will be no ceremonial trip to the cathedral.
Other members of the royal family are expected to be in attendance, including possibly the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke of York, and the service will be followed by a reception at the Guildhall for them.
