Met Gala 2022: Sparkling stars on the red carpet in New York

Celebrities were in attendance last night for this year’s Met Gala – but not everyone stood out on the red carpet.

The annual event – dubbed the biggest night in fashion – is hosted by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

This year’s theme is ‘Golden Glamor’ in reference to the Gilded Age, a period of prosperity in America in the late 19th century.

This means corsets, bold silhouette dresses and unexpected accessories are on display as A-listers turn up for the star-studded event.

Kylie Jenner wore a wedding dress, Cara Delevingne went topless and spray-painted gold – while actress Jessie Buckley painted a mustache for the occasion.

Here are some of the weirdest celebrity outfits from the 2022 Met Gala.

Kylie Jenner

We know Kylie loves the spotlight, but fans were divided over her outfit at this year’s Met Gala.

The 24-year-old girl, who just gave birth to her second child, opted for a white bridal gown with an upside down cap and veil.

The word ‘OFF’ is embroidered on her chest, forming part of the mesh dress.

But it turns out the outfit is in tribute to Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton director Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November at the age of 41 from cancer.

Post a tribute to him on Instagram Kylie wrote: “Virgil and I were supposed to go to the Met together before it was postponed in 2020. To celebrate V tonight and his incredible legacy really means to the world to me. It is with great humility that I wear this dress and honor my talents beautiful friend. We feel for you tonight, Virgil and love you forever.”

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid dazzled with leather with a surprisingly dominating look for this year’s outfit.

The 27-year-old girl wears a burgundy corset, combined with leather pants and knee-high boots

But what really set her outfit apart was her huge burgundy fur coat that dragged across the floor behind her as she swept up the stairs.

Nicki Minaj

Rapper Nicki Minaj is known for her revealing outfits – but she revealed she did indeed have a wardrobe malfunction at this year’s Met Gala.

The 39-year-old emerged in a black feathered dress paired with a leather baseball cap.

But as she walked the red carpet, she repeatedly tugged at her head, then revealed that Burberry’s work had been made too small.

She shared: “The only thing that is not planned about my appearance is my breasts [are] exposed because they make my cup size a bit small. “

Jessie Buckley

One star who really embraced the fun of this year’s Met Gala theme is Jessie Buckley.

The Lost Daughter actress wore a plaid graphic suit which she teamed with a large black hat – and a fake mustache.

And she certainly looked like she was having a good time as the 32-year-old couldn’t stop giggling on the red carpet.

Emma Corrin

Another British star who also appeared at this year’s Met Gala is The Crown actress Emma Corrin.

Apparently her cap and plaid coat look were meant to create a 19th century dapper girl known as the ‘King of the gents’.

Underneath she wears a black waistcoat paired with shorts, white stockings, and pointed black boots.

Emily Ratajkowski

Poor Emily Ratajkowski’s outfit received criticism from many commentators.

Despite saying that she loves her classic Versace look, which is beaded at the top and has a structured skirt at the bottom, fans are less than impressed.

“I feel very lucky to wear this,” Ratajkowski said of the dress model Yasmeen Ghauri had previously worn during a runway show in 1992.

Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne dared to go all out at this year’s Met Gala as she went topless on the red carpet.

The 29-year-old model told the crowd: “The nipples need to be free” as she stripped off her red coat to reveal a body covered in gold paint.

She stuck her tongue out at the photographers as she posed for photos wearing only red pants, gold loafers and a belt with a gold chain on her body.

But she has stopped showing her full nipples and instead wears revealing clothes, perhaps due to the strict Met Gala rules.
