Met Office ice warning for parts of Sussex this weekend

Motorists have been warned of possible disruption on the roads this weekend, with a weather warning for ice.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning in parts of Sussex including Crawley, Haywards Heath and Uckfield from 3am to 11am on Sunday as rain falls on frozen surfaces.

The weather service has warned of travel disruptions, delays in air and rail traffic and injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Widespread frozen surfaces ahead of a band of rain, sleet and snow pushing north-east through Britain through Sunday will result in a risk of freezing conditions later in the morning, before conditions from the west become much milder.

“Any sleet or snow in the south or southeast will likely take an hour or two before turning slightly to rain, but still on frozen surfaces.

“Any slight accumulation, probably no more than an inch or two and mostly over higher ground, will melt quickly, which may temporarily increase ice risk.

“In addition to the risk of ice and snow, strong winds are expected, mainly over higher ground.” Met Office ice warning for parts of Sussex this weekend
