It could be wet for many on Saturday and rainy on Sunday

Thunderstorms could dampen anniversary parties today, but tomorrow is set to get even worse as the Met Office issues an amber weather warning for parts of the UK.

The bad weather is expected to affect parts of the south west of England during the rest of the morning and early afternoon today and much of the country on Sunday.

The Met Office says some locations could see up to 10-20mm of rain within just an hour this morning and into early afternoon, with Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth and Torbay being the main areas.

Torrential downpours are likely in some places, with parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and south-east England most at risk on Sunday.

Thunderstorms and areas of rain are expected to develop over parts of England and Wales in the early hours of Sunday.

Some places could see 15-20mm in an hour and maybe up to 50mm before the storms subside and hail is expected to affect some spots.

These thunderstorms will slowly spread to southern parts of northern England on Sunday morning, according to the Met forecasters, before fading.

Briefly drier conditions will develop further south Sunday morning before more showers and thunderstorms later develop over some parts of southern England, Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia.

The weather experts predict that this could make heavy downpours of another 10-20 mm possible in places. Met Office issues anniversary weather warning for thunderstorms and torrential rain
