Three days from Thunderstorm and torrential downpours will follow the heatwave next week as the Met Office extends the weather warning to three days.
After weeks of hot conditions that brought with them drought and drought hose bansmost people were hoping for a drop or two of rain – but be careful what you wish for.
There are currently three Amber Weather Warnings in place for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday detailing what to expect from the extreme weather conditions.

From 10am to midnight on Monday (14 August), the met office warns of “hit-and-miss thunderstorms” producing “torrential downpours” and “possible disturbances.”
A second yellow severe weather warning goes into effect at midnight on Tuesday, covering the full 24-hour period.
The warning said: “While some locations remain dry, others are likely to experience thunderstorms on Tuesday, with torrential rain bringing some disruption.”
More of the same is predicted for the south of the country on Wednesday with a warning from 9 a.m. to midnight.
Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms – what to expect
Met Office experts have compiled a list of disruptions that could occur in the coming days.
- Spray and sudden flooding could cause difficult driving conditions and road closures
- A small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to buildings from high water, lightning, hail or strong winds
- In the event of flooding or lightning strikes, there is a possibility of delays and some cancellations of train and bus services
- A low probability could result in power outages and other services for some homes and businesses
