Meta says its London office now employs more staff than its European headquarters in Dublin.
t the opening of its new engineering office in London, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp said that London, as the largest engineering office outside the US, now directly employs 4,000 people.
A spokesman for the Dublin office confirmed that Meta employs 3,000 people here, with “businesses that employ a further 6,000 people in Ireland supporting our business and our services”. This includes contractors and others whose primary role is in work projects related to Meta.
The spokesperson said the company’s new Ballsbridge campus “when fully completed will accommodate up to 7,000 employees.”
Next week the company will see a new operations manager in Ireland.
Rick Kelley, a Dublin-based Bostonian, will be the first American to lead Meta Ireland. He succeeds Gareth Lambe from Dublin who has managed the Irish business for several years.
Mr. Kelley is currently Meta’s global vice president of gaming and app monetization solutions organization within the company’s global business group, a position he will continue to hold.
Meanwhile, the company says it has yet to decide whether to challenge the £17 million fine. The Irish DPC’s decision followed its investigation into a series of 12 data breach reports received between June and December 2018.
