Meta’s first retail store will open next month

Meta announced today that it will open its first retail store on its Burlingame, California campus in early May.

This will be Meta’s first hardware retail store and will be open Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm beginning May 9th. The idea of the store is to allow users to have hands-on experiences with its products, much like Apple’s retail stores allow customers to interact and showcase different products in the tech giant’s ecosystem before making a purchase.

The new retail store will feature a dedicated area for testing Meta Quest 2. This includes trying out games like Beat Saber, Real VR Fishing and GOLF+, as well as the option to take home a mixed reality recording where you try out the virtual reality headset.

Meta’s retail store will also include a demo area for customers to try out video calling videos on the portal’s videophones, and the ability to purchase the Ray-Ban Stories, a smart eyewear that Meta launched last year in partnership with the luxury sunglasses company Ray brought out to perform. ban.

This isn’t the first time Meta has offered potential buyers a chance to try out its VR headset. Back in 2016, Meta partnered with retail chain Best Buy to provide VR demos.

While the retail store sounds spacious, Meta notes that the storefront is only 1,550 square feet. This is not surprising as the location is close to Meta Reality Labs headquarters and not in a big metropolitan area like NYC or Los Angeles.

The news that Meta is opening its first hardware retail store comes as the company prepares to develop new products in the VR and AR market. Current projects in the works include Project Cambria, a high-end headset focused on face and gaze tracking.
