Mia Goth, David Corenswet and Ti West want you to be interested in the tragic dynamics of pearls [Exclusive Interview]

David, back to you on this one. Pardon the wording, but I fully expected The Projectionist to be a “hug and dump” character, but he’s been stuck around the farm for a lot longer than I expected. If Pearl didn’t show her true colors with The Projectionist, do you think he would really get her off the farm and follow her dream of becoming a star in Europe?

Corenswet: Sure. This is one of my favorite conversations we have about this character. All those farm scenes were some of the first scenes that we shot. So I feel the same way as you. I had a lot of trouble. Why is he involved? He’s good enough to drive her home, but what keeps him here when things are clearly unusual or weird? And Ti explains it very well, like, “He’s not a bad person.” He wants to be a good guy and he is one and he wants to be a nice and polite person. And he likes Pearl. And it’s not that he’s lying to her or manipulating her, it’s that he’s a little more voluptuous by his pants seat, going with the flow… “bouncy” is how he describes it. about me. And so it’s just a little confusing that Pearl has taken it seriously.

I think one of the great things about the movie is that at the same time you can think of The Projectionist and feel like, “Yeah, he really didn’t sign any contracts, he didn’t offer any any suggestions, he just floated some ideas “in that moment, or as I did while watching the movie, you really feel like Pearl has put all her hopes and dreams into the realm of possibility. this. And the tragedy is that none of them are bad people, the tragedy is that they haven’t been clear enough with each other about the difference in their circumstances. And so they heard what the other said in a way that the other didn’t mean. And that’s the real tragedy that you can’t really blame anyone and things have gone horribly wrong.
