This Monday marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins in Béal na Bláth and communities in cities across Cork have organized events for the whole family. Descendants of Michael Collins are traveling from the United States, Canada, Australia, Africa, the United Kingdom and Cork to attend a number of these commemorations over the weekend.

Michael Collins memorial parade
The parade takes place today at 2pm at Faxbridge through Pearse Street and ends in Emmet Square.
It will feature marching bands, vintage cars, period clothing and more.
The ceremony is hosted by the Cork County Board on behalf of the Cork GAA Clubs. It takes place at 2.45pm at the Michael Collins Statue in Emmet Square.
There will be a Michael Collins treasure hunt by car and on foot at 4pm today, starting at The Four Alls Pub in Sams Cross. From 9.30 p.m. there is live music.
The Clonakilty Brass Band will perform in Emmet Square, the Barrack Street Band in Asna Square and the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Pearse Street. Start is at 3:30 p.m.
Museum open house evening
The Michael Collins House Museum Open Night is free and no reservation is required, it opens at 4pm and the latest entry is 7.30pm.
Sam’s Cross Commemoration Committee will hold a wreath laying ceremony at the Sam’s Cross venue, beginning at 11am.
Michael Collins memorial speech
This will take place at 15:00 in Béal na Bláth and will include speeches by Taoiseach, Mícheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar. A large crowd is expected to attend the televised event, which will be broadcast live on the RTÉ News Now channel.
world record attempt
In hopes of breaking a world record, the largest gathering of people named Michael Collins takes place at 4 p.m. in Newcestown Village.
Clonakilty Black Pudding themed BBQ
The Four Alls Pub, Sam’s Cross also hosts Open Trad Music and Irish Dancing starting at 4pm.
There will also be a dance performance by the World Irish Dancing Champions followed by live music with The Paddy Bhoys at 9pm.
Cork Public Museum
A new exhibition “By a Treaty Divided – The Civil War in Cork” opens. This groundbreaking new exhibition, created by Deirdre Forde, the Lord Mayor of Cork, will include items such as Collins’ gun, his Mass card, his uniform and many items related to Michael Collins that have never before been shown publicly see were.
A jubilee service will be held at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Lisavaird at 5.30pm.
Bus ride from Clonakilty to Béal na Blá
The trainer leaves Clonakilty at 6pm via Cumann Seanchais’ Woodfield.
A toast to Michael Collins
At 6.15pm a toast takes place at the same time as he last left the Four Alls Pub in Sam’s Cross 100 years ago.
This will be followed by live music at 9pm with Two Drops and a wreath laying ceremony at 10pm.
Official wreath-laying ceremony in Béal na Blá
Co Cork Mayor Danny Collins will lay a wreath at 7.30pm, coinciding with the approximate time of Michael Collins’ death.
A wreath will also be laid at the Michael Collins statue in Clonakilty at 9pm.
