Michael Flatley is said to be ‘impossible’ entering the world of cinema

Michael Flatley has urged young people to “keep going” as he talks about his motivations for making his feature film debut, saying people have told him it’s “impossible”.

he is a dancer and choreographer, 64 years old, who has written, directed and also starred in the spy thriller Blackbird, in which he plays former MI6 agent Victor Blackley, who is embroiled back to the world of espionage he left behind.

The film premiered at the Monaco Streaming Film Festival last year, where Flatley received the award for best actor.

He told BBC Breakfast he’s proud to be able to give a bunch of talent their first roles in a film, adding: “Young people are so talented and I love young people.

“And I’ll tell you what, the big motivation for me to create Blackbird was all the people who said ‘Impossible. You can not do it. You can’t be an actor – you’re a dancer’. I mean, I listened to it until my face turned blue and you just had to move on.

“And there are a lot of people out there who have dreams of doing something or becoming someone or doing something great, and they are paralyzed by fear. ‘What will people think? What will others say? ‘

“You can’t let that stop you, get up, hit your best shot and let the chips fall where they can.”

Flatley added: “Especially young people, go for it. Don’t listen to what others say. You have to go for it. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

“There is no shame in failing, the shame is in not getting up and trying. That’s how I see life.”

It was expanded to a series and opened at Dublin’s Point Theater in 1995, followed by Flatley’s own Lord Of The Dance stage creation.

He has gone on to create, produce, and direct other productions including Feet Of Flames and Celtic Tiger.

Blackbird also stars Hollywood actor Eric Roberts, Robin Hood’s Patrick Bergin, Game Of Thrones actor Ian Beattie, and Nicole Evans, whose credits include a role in Captain America: The First Avenger year 2011.

Flatley recalls how his mother encouraged him to pursue acting, saying: “For 25 years we have toured the world with Lord Of The Dance. We’ve sold out every major venue from Mexico to Moscow, from Tokyo to Madison Square Garden in New York, we’re lucky.

“And on Sunday my dear old Irish mother would call and say, ‘Give up dancing and go make some movies,’ and I used to say, ‘Mom, there’s 200 people to count on. children for their lives and sold out 15,000 seats. and do a few questions’, if I don’t mind saying so.

“I don’t intend to give it up.

“But, of course, I had to walk a lot of miles and my body started to argue and as a result, 2016 St Patrick’s Day was my last dance at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, and she was answered the phone and she said, ‘you have no more excuses’. So I gave her word and here we are: happy days. “

His mother Eilish passed away later in 2016, but Flatley said he knew she was watching him and that she would be proud that Blackbird was the kind of movie she “would love”.

The dancer revealed that since the release of the trailer, there have been many offers for other projects and that he is currently working on a dance movie titled Dream Dancer.

He said the latest movie, about a girl who dreams of “great dance moves”, is currently in his interest and he knows a lot of people in the US are interested in a dance project.
