Michael McIntyre is bringing back ‘two popular Saturday night shows’

Michael McIntyre has said he is “thrilled” to be bringing back his Big Show after a three-year hiatus and its Saturday night game show The Wheel, also re-commissioned by the BBC.

The 46-year-old comedian will return to BBC One for six episodes of his variety show, which earned him a Bafta TV award for Best Entertainment Achievement in 2017.

Recorded for a live audience at the Theater Royal, Drury Lane, McIntyre’s Big Show will see the return of Send To All, Celebrity Midnight Gameshow and The Unexpected Star of the Show, as well as a host of brand new features.

McIntyre said: “Three long years without unexpected stars, without getting my hands on a single celebrity’s phone, with people sleeping soundly unafraid of me sneaking into their bedrooms.

“Well the wait is over, the Big Show is back and we’ve used those three years to come up with even bigger surprises and even bigger laughs.”

The BBC also announced that McIntyre’s “beloved” Saturday night game show The Wheel will return for a third season, with 12 episodes to air later this year.

The show sees celebrity guests sitting on a giant spinning wheel trying to help contestants win big cash prizes.

Celebrity guests included Rob Beckett, Carol Vorderman, Danny Dyer and Dermot O’Leary.

McIntyre added, “Not only will I star the unsuspecting public on The Big Show, I’ll be making another series of The Show that’s literally about me!

“The wheel is turning backwards too! I’m delighted that both shows are so popular and are returning to BBC One.”

Dan Baldwin, chief executive of production company Hungry McBear Media, said: “We can’t wait to bring two of the country’s most popular Saturday night shows back to BBC One.

“If you missed seeing Gino D’Acampo in his pants at midnight, a firefighter singing opera, or Jamie Oliver texting everyone on his phone that he loves chicken nuggets, then you’re in for a treat, when Big Show returns!

“And Michael will once again take center stage on TV’s biggest game show, The Wheel. See you there!”
