Love Island: Gemma Owen plants kissing on Davide Sanclimenti

Michael Owen has criticized Love Island fans for calling his daughter Gemma ‘rude and too young’.

The 19-year-old dress racer has caused quite a bit of controversy since making a splash on the ITV2 show last week.

Some viewers questioned her attitude, with some arguing that the costume rider needed to work on her manners.

Others argue that the famous child is too young to stay in the villa, especially as she is paired with Davide Sanclimenti, who is eight years her senior.

But now, former footballer Michael has clapped his hands at the criticism for his daughter.

Acknowledging Gemma’s mother Louise was “so upset” after reading the comments, he said: “Looking at my social media feed, you’d think 70% of the world hates me, but it’s different when that’s your daughter.”

Much has been made of Gemma’s age, with many fans realizing that she’s 8 years younger than her current crush.

But Michael thinks his daughter is mature enough to be on the show, pointing out that he played for Liverpool as a 17-year-old.

And although Gemma is still his “baby”, the former England player said he trusts his daughter to decide.

The big decision maker of last night’s show was Welsh contestant Liam Llewellyn.

After less than a week at the villa, the 22-year-old decided to call it a day when he told his friends he was dropping out of the show.

Gemma was initially paired with Liam until Davide became acquainted with the brunette beauty.

Fans have criticized Liam for being rude, saying she has made it clear that she doesn’t care about him.

But after her own bomb blast last night, Gemma admitted she “felt appropriately guilty” for her role in the students’ decision to drop out.

Before entering the mansion, however, Liam told The Mirror his biggest fear was not being chosen by any of the girls on the show.

“Everybody wants to be wanted, and wants to be chosen. So feeling unselected is a stressful thought for me. That feeling of rejection is never a good feeling,” he admits.
