Michael Owen reveals he sought therapy out of ‘jealousy’ of his daughter and wife’s relationship

Michael Owen has spoken about “intentionally” getting really tough with his wife on topics he knows will “squeeze her”, including the close bond between his childhood sweetheart and child his big.

Michael Owen has revealed that his jealousy of his daughter’s close relationship with his wife led him to seek therapy after retiring from football.

Owen, 42, quit the sport in 2013 after an illustrious career that spanned 17 years and saw him play for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Manchester United, Stoke and England.

The daughter of former soccer player Gemma, 19, shot to fame after she visited the Love Island mansion for the eighth series of the hit dating show ITV2, which began last week.

From an excerpt from Michael’s autobiography, Reboot, he talks about “intentionally” harassing his wife on topics he knows will “force her”, including the close relationship between childhood sweetheart and his eldest child.

This is due to mental health struggles after taking a break from sports.

Michael wrote: “To my surprise, I found myself on the edge of a cliff figuratively in 2014.

“My whole life of that certain kind of mentality, behavior, has led me to seek professional help…

“For many years, for my own introspection, I have purposely been really hard on Louise about subjects that I know will interest her most – especially her close relationship with her children. our girl Gemma.

“Let me be clear and say that none of this reflects how I feel about Gemma or Louise. I love them both with all my heart.

“However, I will tell everything about Louise. I accuse her of spending all her time with the eldest and ignoring the other children. That’s not even true.”

On Monday night, the Afia Tonkmor bombing became the series’ first landing.

The 25-year-old club presenter was sent away in shock following the arrival of rugby league player Jacques O’Neill.
