Michael Stewart branded a ‘dangerous character’ as the BBC pundit describes Sportscene Rangers’ decider

MICHAEL STEWART has been jokingly branded a “dangerous character” after it was revealed he was already in a heated debate over a decision on Hearts’ loss to Rangers.

The pundit appeared alongside Kenny Miller on BBC Sportscene, with presenter Steven Thompson explaining how the two’s opinions had split even before the show.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, Thompson said the expert duo are at odds over the decision to rule out Scott Arfield’s first-half smash against Hearts.

The Rangers midfielder had tapped home from close range after Craig Gordon spilled a cross. But referee Steven McLean called for a foul on the keeper.

Kris Boyd and John Robertson had both suggested VAR would overturn the decision and award the goal when speaking on Sky Sports at half-time.

But Thompson insists Stewart stick to his thoughts on the decision as he refuses to believe the goal should have stood.

And in a hilarious on-air exchange, Thompson branded Stewart a “dangerous character” before praising his colleague as an “excellent expert.”

Thompson said: “I enjoyed listening to you this afternoon, thoroughly entertaining I must say.

“The second half in particular was dramatic, it was really an exciting day.

“So you’ve guessed all the things that have happened in terms of VAR, we can show you at half past six if we can get everything done on time.

“Kenny and Mikey have argued about a few things. The main argument was Craig Gordon.”

BBC Sport Scotland journalist Tom English added: “Mikey lost the conspiracy about it.

Thompson then continued: “I don’t think he wins the argument, for me I think the goal should have stood.

“But you know how he is, but when he has an idea in his head, you don’t change his mind.

Leanne Crichton – Motherwell player and coach – then commented: “He’s not just sticking to his beliefs, he’s furiously trying to change your mind, but actually it’s okay to have different opinions.

Thompson then joked, “He’s a dangerous character.

“He never sits on the fence and I’ll tell you what, he’s an excellent expert so it’s going to be good.”
