Microplastics are not only a serious threat to marine life, they are also endangering our own – so a single-use future must be discouraged

Plastics have been polluting the planet since the mid-20th century, affecting both natural and urban ecosystems. As a result, global pollution ranks second only to climate change as a serious environmental health threat.

Microplastics – solid particles and fibers 5mm or smaller in size – are formed as a result of the weathering and decomposition of commonly used plastic items such as toys, tools, furniture, clothing and paint. They are also added to cosmetics and cleaning products that end up in the environment.
