Microsoft is suspending all new sales of its products and services in Russia

Microsoft has announced that it will suspend all new sales of its products in Russia.

These products include Azure, Windows, and Xbox systems, among others.

According to President and Vice Chairman Brad Smith, the company is “appalled, upset and saddened” by the images and news from the war in Ukraine and “condemns this unjustified, unprovoked and unlawful invasion by Russia.”

In addition to suspending sales, the company is coordinating and working closely with the United States, European Union and United Kingdom governments and is ceasing operations of many of its businesses in Russia in accordance with government sanctions decisions.

“We believe that taking concrete steps in coordination with the decisions of these governments is the most effective way of assisting Ukraine, and we will take additional steps as this situation evolves,” Smith said.

“Almost certainly our most influential area of work is protecting Ukrainian cybersecurity. We continue to work proactively to assist cybersecurity officials in Ukraine in repelling Russian attacks, most recently a cyberattack on a major Ukrainian broadcaster.”

Smith says it has cracked down on “Russian positioning, destructive or destructive actions against more than 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial sector organizations” since the beginning of the war. She has also cracked down on cyberattacks on several civilian sites, raising concerns that these attacks on civilians violate the Geneva Convention.

The company is also mobilizing its resources to help the people of Ukraine. The philanthropy and UN affairs teams work with the International Committee of the Red Cross and various UN agencies to help refugees, providing technology and financial support where needed and protecting these groups from ongoing cyberattacks.

“As a company, we are committed to the safety of our employees in Ukraine and are in constant contact with them to offer many forms of support, including to those who have had to flee for their life or safety,” Smith said.

“Like so many others, we stand with Ukraine in our call to restore peace, respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and protect its people.” Microsoft is suspending all new sales of its products and services in Russia
