Arsenal are targeting a move for left-back Aaron Hickey from Bologna amid the injury woes of Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu this season as Mikel Arteta anticipates a busy summer

The Gunners are looking for a left-back due Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury struggles throughout the current season. the previous Celtic The full-back was ruled out for the season following knee surgery in April and has struggled to keep fit since joining from Parkhead in the summer of 2019.
Tomiyasu’s brilliant debut season was derailed after he picked up a calf injury at the turn of the year. The Japanese defender returned to the starting XI Sunday in a 3-1 win over west ham but had to be withdrawn in the second half as he was unable to continue, which Arteta insists is not a recurrence of his previous injury.
While Cedric and Nuno Tavares have been given a good chunk of playing time in the duo’s absence, Arteta doesn’t seem confident in the options at his disposal as the Spaniard looks to bolster his defence.
Rising star from Bologna Aaron Hickey, who was a standout player for Tomiyasu’s former employers, has reportedly become a target this summer football.london. The Scottish youngster initially took a while to adjust to life in Serie A after joining from Hearts in the summer of 2020, having made 11 appearances in Italy’s top flight in his debut season.
But the versatile defender, who can play both left and right, has found his groove this season, making 33 league appearances, scoring five goals and recording one assist. Bologna are said to be asking a fee in the region of £18million for Hickey, whose contract expires in the summer of 2024.
Tierney’s development since arriving at the Emirates has given Arsenal a blueprint for Hickey to follow as they seek to invest in another talented Scottish left-back. In fact, Hickey was part of Celtic’s youth line-up when Tierney broke into the Hoops’ first-team before joining Hearts in 2018.

Arsenal spent nearly £150million last summer when Arteta’s remodeling began and they expect another busy window this year.
When asked if the Gunners will be active in the summer, he said: “I assume so, yes. I think both competitions [the Champions League and Europa League] require a much larger squad because the number of games you play is much larger either way, so I don’t think so [which you qualify for] makes a big difference or changes a lot.
“If you can afford it financially and we don’t have to do the squad turnaround that we had to do if you ask me what I want, it’s 22 outfield players and three goalies. They have a long way to go in terms of the aspects you see on the pitch, there are a lot of things that need to be implemented and that takes time.”
