Miley Cyrus remembered the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins “not only as a superstar” but as “my friend, my idol and my neighbor”.
The American singer said her years as neighbors with the 50-year-old musician in Los Angeles were “one of the happiest times of my life”.
Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia in March while the Foo Fighters were touring South America.
On Tuesday night, Cyrus joined an all-star lineup of rock legends at a special tribute concert for him in Los Angeles.
Cyrus shared a post to Instagram that included an earlier recording of Hawkins in which he told her he was listening to the track and that she was going to “kill it”.
“A personal request from the legend himself. #TaylorHawkins my friend, my idol…. My neighbor,” she captioned the post.
“Growing up on a farm, I could never see the light of another nearby house, but living with Taylor during my years in LA was one of the happiest times of my life. I.
“I miss Taylor as much as everyone else. It was an honor to greet him last night and perform w @defleppard.
“What a blessing to know him not only as a superstar but also to take the time to watch him as both a father and a husband!
“Last night was the most special way to remember the MOST special person! @foofirers forever. “
