Dave Grohl invited fans to “take a moment in the musical mind” of Taylor Hawkins, as he opened a special tribute concert to the late Foo Fighters drummer.

His event at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles was Hawkins’ second celebration since the 50-year-old drummer was found dead in his Colombian hotel room in March.

Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Oliver Shane later introduced his father’s classic cover rock band, Chevy Metal, to fans at the gymnasium, “I’m really nervous.”

The youngster had previously performed drums at a UK tribute concert in London.

Chevy Metal was joined by Kesha on stage and performed David Bowie’s Heroes.

British rocker Def Leppard also joined the list in honor of the music, with frontman Joe Elliott recalling meeting with Hawkins three decades earlier in California.

“So 30 years ago Phil (Collen) walked into a guitar shop in Laguna Hills and a 20-year-old sold him some guitar strings,” he told the crowd.

“About five years later, we were doing Top Of The Pops in England … this kid walked into the dressing room. He was playing drums for Alanis Morrisette.

“It’s Taylor Hawkins, in tribute. Let’s do some proper songs for Taylor.”

The band played Rock Of Ages before being briefly joined by US star Miley Cyrus to perform the Photograph, matching her bleached blonde hair with Elliot’s.

Funds from concert tickets and merchandise sales will go to the charities Music Support and MusiCares, selected by the Hawkins family, who helped organize the event.

Hawkins has played in a band led by former Nirvana drummer Grohl for more than two decades, along with Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee.

He joined the Foo Fighters in 1997 after a previous tour with Morissette. Hawkins also starred with the band in their recently released film, Studio 666.
