Millions of iPhone owners have warned that the iOS update could “break” important features

A glitch in Apple’s latest software update has rained down on the iPhone makers’ parade after fans complained online.

The recent iOS 16.3 update has resulted in many users now being unable to back up their iCloud – one of Apple’s most popular features.

Despite the issue, iPhone users are still being urged to install the update over cybersecurity concerns

Dissatisfied users turned to Apple’s support forums and Reddit to raise concerns after encountering error messages trying to protect their data on iCloud, AppleInsider was first to report.

Apple’s iCloud ensures users have a copy of information on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

iCloud Backup creates a copy of the information on your Apple device, protecting your data from loss or theft — and also making it easier to set up a new device.

The iOS 16.3 was launched at the end of January.

The update made security changes, including the use of physical security keys, which serve as an extra layer of protection for accounts.

When users re-enable iCloud, they are faced with pop-ups saying either “An unknown error has occurred” or “An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later.”

For many people, two-factor authentication isn’t enabled with the latest update either – which can put their Apple accounts at risk.

Two-factor authentication means users must provide two forms of identification to gain access to their accounts, e.g. B. a password and a phone number.

However, there are some reports of users having the same problem but their two-factor authentication is still intact.

Despite the issue, iPhone users are still being urged to install the update over cybersecurity concerns.

With each new update, Apple patches potential security flaws, meaning iPhone users are left unprotected if their device’s system isn’t up to date.

To check if your iCloud backup is working, users go in a lot Ideas > [their name] > iCloud > iCloud backup.

Users need to make sure their device is connected to a power source and WiFi, their device screen is locked, and they have enough storage space in their iCloud.
