Millions of iPhone owners MUST follow Apple’s new advice today or it could cost you

APPLE has issued a surprise alert for very old iPhones that require installation.

If you own an older model, you urgently need to download a new software update.

Your iPhone is in dire need of an update

If you ignore it, hackers could run code on your iPhone and take control of your device.

Everyone who still uses an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus is affected.

These old models usually no longer receive iOS updates.

But Apple has released a special security update called iOS 12.5.6.

Warning to ALL Apple fans - don't make a big iPhone mistake in the next two weeks

For comparison: iOS 15.6.1 is currently running on modern iPhones.

If you have an older iPhone, you must download the new update as soon as possible.

Otherwise, hackers can create malicious websites that hijack your device upon opening.

Apple has even warned that the bug may already have been exploited by cyber crooks.

To install the new update, go to Settings > General > Software update.

You can download and install the update over WiFi.

If you can’t install the latest update due to disk space, consider deleting some files (but backup them elsewhere first).

Apple is also offering the update to several other older devices, including the iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad Air, and iPod touch (6th generation).

I warn!

It comes just weeks after Apple urged all users to install a fresh iOS update on newer iPhones.

This added new protections against a hack attack that allowed crooks to take control of your iPhone.

Apple regularly releases iOS updates to fix security vulnerabilities.

Hackers can exploit these bugs to take control of parts (or even all) of your handset.

If you don’t regularly install iOS updates on your iPhone, the loopholes exploited by hackers remain open.

On newer iPhones, you need to make sure that iOS 15.6.1 is installed.

To become old

Some very old iPhone models no longer receive iOS updates.

This poses a significant risk of hacking, so it’s worth considering an upgrade as soon as possible.

For example, when the iOS 16 update lands in September, Apple’s 1st generation iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and iPhone SE will be cut off.

These phones were compatible with the latest iOS 15.6.1 but will not get iOS 16.

If you’re using older iPhones, you’re already cut off, so consider upgrading to a newer model right away.

Here is the full list of devices supported by iOS 16:

  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro max
  • iphone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 pro
  • iPhone 12 pro max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8plus
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation or newer)

Any iPhones not on this list will not get iOS 16.

If you’re using an older iPhone, you simply need to upgrade your handset to a newer device to access iOS 16.

If you haven’t updated your iPhone recently, you should do so as soon as possible.
