Millions of iPhone owners warned against using the new ‘Stalker Check’ tool – it could save your life

APPLE has detailed the additional security features included in recent updates to its AirTag product amid stalking concerns.

The AirTag aims to be a useful tool for keeping track of your belongings.

But since launching in April 2021, there have been multiple reports of them being abused by Creeps to follow humans.

This prompted Apple to release several key feature improvements.

An update rolled out on November 10 turned on something called Precision Finding.

It is a tool that helps users find an unknown AirTag that is following them.

“When your iPhone is awake, a notification notifies you when an AirTag that is detached from its owner travels with you and emits a tone to indicate it has been moved,” Apple’s official document note reads.

You must have iOS 16.2 or later installed to use it.

Recently, Apple rolled out another update, this time focusing on a small bug fix.

Update 2.0.36 – as it is officially called – was rolled out on December 12th.

While there aren’t any major new features, it’s important.

It fixes an issue with the accelerometer.

There was apparently an issue causing it not to activate in certain scenarios.

When 9to5Mac There is reportedly no way to instantly update an AirTag like there is with other devices like the iPhone itself.

As a firmware update, it will be rolled out in phases, ie it will not be made available to everyone at the same time.

These are delivered periodically while your AirTag is within Bluetooth range of your iPhone.

However, if you own an AirTag, you can check the firmware version to see if you already have it.

You can do this by opening the Find My app.

Tap the Items tab, then select your AirTag from the list.

Tap on your AirTag’s name and you should see the serial number and firmware version.

The latest update is 2.0.36. So when you see that everything is fine.
