It’s been at the top of many fans’ wish lists for years after Apple removed the numeric readout from the top of the iPhone’s display in 2017.

Since then, every flagship model has only shown an inaccurate visual representation of the battery level.

The more accurate version finally celebrated its comeback on Monday with the release of iOS 16 – but not for every iPhone model.

Only some iPhones with a “notch” display are intended for the revised marker.

In a support document, Apple says the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini won’t show it.

The company gave no further details on why these models were left out.

Rumor has it that iPhones with LCD displays and mini phones don’t have the screen resolution to support the display.

Here is the full list of iPhones that support it:

  • iPhone 14 pro max
  • iPhone 14 pro
  • iPhone 14 plus
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 13 Pro max
  • iPhone 13 pro
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 12 pro max
  • iPhone 12 pro
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone X

While many fans have welcomed the change, some have an ax to grind with Apple.

After news of the update broke on Reddit last month, users flocked to Apple to limit it to specific models.

One Redditor whined, “What the heck? Why can’t the 12/13 Mini and XR get it too?”

Another said: “Gotta be damned for kidding me. – Signed an XR user.”

However, many people were happy with the update, and one Redditor described it as “unironically the best iOS 16 feature.”

For years, the battery percentage indicator appeared in the iPhone’s status bar — which also shows the time, signal strength, and more.

However, Apple ditched it in 2017 with the iPhone X, which introduced the Californian company’s “Notch” screen design.

The layout sacrificed part of the status bar to make room for cameras and sensors and has been featured on every flagship iPhone since.

To view the exact percentage of battery remaining, newer model owners had to open a separate menu by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.

It’s been a point of contention among Apple fans for years, prompting Apple to finally address the issue with the release of iOS 16.

This means users can now see exactly how much power they have left at a glance, without having to open the Control Center menu.
