Millions of iPhones WILL NOT get a new free iOS 16 update – will your model miss out?

APPLE has finally announced its next big iPhone update — but your model might not get it.

Millions of iPhones will miss iOS 16 because they’re just too old.

The new update was announced at Apple’s WWDC keynote in June.

iPhone Owners get a slick new lock screen with widgets, the ability to remove text on messages, and an Apple Pay trick that lets you split purchases into four separate payments.

But like all iPhone updates, not everyone will get the new one iOS To update.

You need an iPhone 8 or later to get the new iOS 16.

That means two iPhone generations have been cut off: the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 7.

The 1st gen iPhone SE also won’t be compatible with iOS 16, but it was with iOS 15.5.

Here is the full list of devices supported by iOS 16:

  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro max
  • iphone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 pro
  • iPhone 12 pro max
  • iphone 11
  • iPhone 11 pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8plus
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation or newer)

If you’re using an older iPhone, you simply need to upgrade to access iOS 16.

Otherwise you will miss the new features.

But what’s even more worrying is that if you’re unable to get the latest iOS, you’ll lose access to the latest security fixes.

These are critical patches that close vulnerabilities used by hackers to gain access to your systems.

So using a very old iPhone that cannot be updated could put you at risk.

If you can’t update to iOS 16, you’d better update your iPhone sooner rather than later.

In any case, iOS 16 is packed with new features that might tempt you.

This includes a new lock screen with widgets, stylized portrait wallpapers and notifications that roll up from the bottom.

Messages is also getting a major update that allows you to edit or retrieve recently sent messages, as well as recover recently deleted messages.

You can also mark conversations as unread.

iOS 16 is available in beta for developers starting today, followed by a public beta next month.

And the software will eventually roll out later this year, likely in September.
