Millions of Netflix fans have warned to STOP the app immediately – you are making a huge mistake

NETFLIX subscribers have been warned they could be paying a premium for a premium service they don’t even get.

The streaming giant these days makes many of its shows and films available in 4K if you’re willing to pay the top fee, which is £15.99 / $19.99.

However, some viewers may not be aware that they don’t even get the 4K treatment, even if their device can display it.

As an expert Daniel Kim explained, Netflix restricts the quality of the video stream in Google Chrome and Firefox.

Instead of getting 4K, you can only get 720p, which is pretty straightforward.

Why do they limit quality in this way, you might ask?

Well, it has to do with the fear of piracy.

In technical terms, it boils down to something called Digital Rights Management (DRM).

Essentially, it protects things from being copied.

Chrome and Firefox have software-based DRM but do not support hardware-based DRM.

This means the thousands of hours of Netflix with TV and Movies could be ripped off by a screen recording app.

Instead, the company reduces streaming quality to protect itself somewhat.

If you are subscribed to the Top 4K plan, there is another very easy way to get what you pay for.

Luckily, Microsoft Edge supports hardware-based DRM — and when it comes to Mac, so does Safari.

Switch to these two web browsers to get 4K from your desktop or laptop once and for all.
