Now we’re getting an idea of where the ax will fall, and it looks like Meta’s Portal video calling device is one of the big casualties.

According to Reuters, employees were told on Friday that the company is using fewer core hardware products.

Meta had already quietly repositioned Portal as a purely business device – but the latest reports suggest it’s being retired entirely.

The struggling company is also scrapping plans for two smartwatches.

Portal was released back in 2018 as a smart display primarily focused on allowing people to video call each other through Facebook’s own Messenger app.

Alexa is built-in so users can complete tasks with their voice.

Meta has yet to confirm the plans.

As such, it’s not clear what the massive changes will mean for anyone who already owns a Portal device.

Mark Zuckerberg, 38, admitted he misread the social network’s growth plan last week when it announced massive layoffs affecting 13 percent of its 87,000 employees worldwide.

It is the first major job cuts in Meta’s 18-year history.

He described the painful move as “the most difficult changes we’ve made in meta history.”

It comes as the company also took a massive risk with Zuckerberg’s Metaverse dream, pumping billions into the project.
