Breaking the law has become such a habit in this administration that you’d think Priti Patel should spend all her time handcuffing fellow cabinet members. But no.

The minister in charge of policing the nation finds a few minutes to break the law herself.

On Friday a judge ruled that Ms Patel broke the Equality Act by giving herself a four-year extension to use the Ministry of Defense’s Napier Barracks in Folkestone, Kent, to house migrants.

The Home Secretary had failed to consider the impact that long-term use of the barracks would have on the people suffering there and on the local community.

This comes on top of findings against her 12 months ago in the Napier selection process and in March this year for her unlawful confiscation of migrants’ mobile phones.

It remains to be seen whether British courts will rule the sending of refugees to Rwanda unlawful, as the European Court of Human Rights has already done.

Mr Johnson began his tenure as Prime Minister by illegally attempting to dodge Parliament and lying to the Queen in order to push through Brexit.

This now goes deeper than the anger felt over the Downing Street squats during lockdown.

We know that the Right Honorables who guide us are neither on the side of the law nor honorable. That’s why the Tories lost both of those by-elections last week.

Law-abiding Brits who play by the rules cannot bear to see Tory ministers so audaciously breaking them.

Trust is hard to win and easy to lose. Ministers who consistently flout the rules cannot be trusted by voters. And that’s why this mess of a government is now doomed.

Power to Tash

Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri calls her deafness her “superpower” and says, “There’s just something cool about me.”

We like that, Tash. Describing a disability as a strength is the way to inspire other young people in a similar position, because you say that deafness is not a disability at all.

Dad Tarek comes to her defense today because the boys on the show were mean to her.

We understand that, Tarek. That’s what fathers do.

But we don’t think you should worry. With Tasha’s superpower, you have a superwoman for a daughter.
