Missing couple found shot dead in wooded area as police launch murder investigation

It is feared that Stephen Reid and Djeswende Reid were shot dead in what police described as a “tragedy that came out of nowhere”.

A missing couple has been found shot dead in a wooded area in the United States.

The bodies of Stephen Reid, 67, and Djeswende Reid, 66, were discovered Thursday night in the woods of Concord, New Hampshire.

Family and friends hadn’t heard from the couple since Monday when they went for a walk in the woods.

Police launched a murder investigation after finding their bodies.

Senior Assistant Attorney General of New Hampshire Geoffrey Ward said: “Anyone who saw the Reids this Monday afternoon, anyone who walked those trails, anyone with information regarding his disappearance or death is asked to get in touch contact the Concord Police Department if you saw or heard of them that afternoon.”

Concord Deputy Police Commissioner John Thomas added: “This is a tragedy, something that came out of nowhere and we are doing our due diligence, investing all of our resources and working with our state and local partners to resolve this case to bring about a successful solution.”

Officials have not revealed whether they believe the attack was a targeted one, reports CBS News.

In a statement, police previously said: “Stephen and his wife Djeswende ‘Wende’ Reid were last arrested on Sunday April 17.

“Both parties last had telephone communication with family and friends on Monday April 18, 2022.

“The Reids were reported missing by a family member on April 20, 2022 when Stephen failed to show up for a scheduled event.

“Both vehicles were parked in their usual places. Neither person has a known medical history or domestic violence.

“Both should not own firearms. They are avid outdoors people and known to frequently stroll the trails near their Concord residence.

“Her absence and lack of communication with family and friends is uncharacteristic and her disappearance is of grave concern.”
