Mo Salah bids farewell to Kevin De Bruyne and Declan Rice to be named Footballer of the Year by Football Writers

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah was voted Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association, while Chelsea striker Sam Kerr received the women’s award.
Egypt international Salah received 48 percent of the vote ahead of Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
Salah has scored 30 goals for the Reds this season, 22 in the Premier League, while Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking for more domestic and European success.
The 29-year-old has won the FWA Award, which has been presented since 1948, for the second time and was also voted Footballer of the Year in 2018.
Liverpool and Manchester City players dominated voting, with nine of Klopp’s squad receiving individual nominations and a total of six City players being recognized.
For the first time, the vote for Female Footballer of the Year was open to full membership of the FWA, with the award introduced in 2018 having previously been awarded by a panel of experts.
Australia striker Kerr, who has scored 18 goals in the Women’s Super League to help Chelsea top the table, received 40 per cent of the vote, with Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema in second place and Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp in third.
Salah and Kerr, 28, will accept their awards at the Footballer of the Year dinner in London on May 5.
FWA chair Carrie Brown said: “Both Mo and Sam have been outstanding this season, breaking records for both club and country.
“In addition to their performances on the field, they are leaders and outstanding performers in their clubs and respective leagues.
“The fact that they won by such a convincing margin underscores how impressive they have been this season, which has been recognized by our members.”
