adio Mane converted the crucial penalty to send Senegal through to the World Cup finals while Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah suffered heartbreak on penalties for Egypt.

Mane’s penalty ended a dramatic second leg in Diamniadio after Hamdi Fathi equalized for the hosts with a fourth-minute own goal after Egypt’s 1-0 win in Cairo on Friday night.

The result was a repeat of the Africa Cup of Nations final two months ago, when Mane again scored the winning goal against the same opponents.

Senegal dominated most of the game and Egypt were indebted to goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who denied Pape Abdou Cisse and Ismaila Sarr victory with a series of impressive saves in extra time.

Salah kicked Egypt’s first penalty over the bar and after both sides managed to miss their first four penalties together, it was Mane’s turn to seal his side’s passage to Qatar.

Thomas Partey’s early goal also qualified Ghana for the finals after a 1-1 draw with Nigeria in Abuja.
