Mobo Awards Announces Nominees for 25th Anniversary Event

Knucks led at the Mobo Awards with five nominations, while Mercury Prize winner Little Simz trailed with four nominations.

His annual event, which celebrates black music, will mark its 25th anniversary in late November with a special ceremony at OVO Arena Wembley.

London-based rapper and producer Knucks, whose music mixes rap and jazz, received nods in categories including Album of the Year for Alpha Place, best actor and best hip hop best.

A year after winning the Mobo Award for Best Actress, Little Simz has earned four nominations, including Album of the Year for Sometimes I Can Be Introverts, a critically-acclaimed fourth record. expensive.

That work won her the Mercury Prize in October, with judges praising it as “complete and complex yet completely accessible”.

West London chart-topper, Central Cee, also received four nominations, including best performance.

The 24-year-old won the Mobo for best newcomer and the inaugural award at last year’s rehearsal.

The nominations also saw rapper Ivorian Doll become the first female artist to be nominated in the drill category.

Other contenders include Dave, D-Block Europe, Digga D, Mahalia, Ms Banks and PinkPantheress.

This year, organizers introduced two new categories – best alternative music performance, which recognizes indie, rock and punk performers, and best dance/electronic, honoring sports types like jungle, drums and bass, house and techno.

Mobo founder Kanya King said: “Today’s announcement really represents a bumper year for the scene.

The Mobo Awards first took place in 1996 at London’s Grand Connaught Room, and the trophies have become much sought after in the music world.

The presenters and performers for the November 30 awards ceremony have yet to be announced.
