Mods are flocking to the Brighton seafront for the bank holiday weekend

HUNDREDS of people flocked to the coast to show off their scooters for this year’s Mod Weekender.

Gleaming machines decked out with plenty of mirrors and fog lights line Madeira Drive, where passersby stop to admire them as part of a weekend celebrating mod culture.

The event, which has been running since 2004, includes group bike rides, club nights and other activities.

The weekender ends today with a ‘grand finale’ of mod party songs at Komedia with The Buzz.

Clashes between mods and rockers were a regular occurrence in Brighton in the 1960s, with more than 1,000 teenagers reportedly being involved in violence on Whitsunday 1964.

Deckchairs were used as weapons and destroyed in beach fires, and pictures of the fighting from Brighton went around the world.

The clash was later dramatized in the 1979 film Quadrophenia.
