Mohamed Salah has a clear personal preference for who Liverpool face this season Champions League Final.
The Reds booked their spot in this season’s flagship after theirs Semi-final comeback win over Villarreal on Tuesday. Salah had set up Sadio Mane’s second goal last week’s two-goal win over the Spaniards at Anfield but the Reds sweated over their place in the final after a rally from Unai Emery’s side in the second leg.
Goals from Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin gave Villarreal a seemingly commanding two-goal lead that night to level the tie overall and rock Jurgen Klopp’s side, but they responded in style after the break. Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane all scored for the visitors after the break Liverpool won that night and secured a 5-2 win overall.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Salah made a definitive call on who he now wants to face in the Champions League final in Paris. The Reds meet the winners of real Madrid against Manchester Citywho meet in the second leg of their semifinals the following Wednesday Pep Guardiola’s side beat Madrid in a seven-goal thriller in Manchester last week.
The Egyptian striker is aiming to take on the Spanish side in the decider after coming up short again in 2018 at the flagship tournament. In that game, Salah had to be substituted early due to injury while Real Madrid lifted the trophy by a 3-3. 1 win.
Salah explained after the Villarreal game: “I want to play against Madrid, I have to be honest. City are a really tough team, we’ve played them a few times this season. Personally, I think I’d prefer Madrid. We have lost.” them the final, so I want to play against them and hopefully win it.”

Speaking about achieving personal goals and helping the Reds achieve a possible historic quadruple, Salah added: “Top assists aren’t something really big, top scorer is always something really big. Today when I gave Fab the ball everything changed. Assists definitely count for goals too, the team are doing amazing things so let’s hope for the best.
“For sure [on quadruple being the target], for sure. Maybe not at the beginning of the season, I always focus on the Champions League and First League, but now we’re close for everything, so why not? After we City in the semifinals of FA Cup [when he started to think about Quadruple], but even in the group stage of the Champions League we played great, we had a tough group and we played great. Since then I started to believe that we were going to win the Champions League.”
Liverpool still have a long way to go this season as they are still a single point behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race while they have the Champions League final and FA Cup final against each other Chelsea is yet to come.
