Mom shares her ‘miracle’ shaving cream trick that helps calm sunburn in 30 minutes

Cindie Allen-Stewart has shared before and after pictures of her sunburnt back to show how effective her 30-minute home remedy is, and it might be just in time

A mum has shared a ‘miracle’ shaving cream trick that helps soothe sunburn in just 30 minutes – and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Temperatures in the UK hit 34C yesterday as a heatwave made us all head out into the sun or try to find shade when we’ve had enough.

Many will be bruised today after spending too long in the scorching heat, and Texas native Cindie Allen-Stewart has just the right tip for relieving the pain — and without aftersun.

She said if you feel the heat, you should reach for shaving cream — as she says it “works wonders” if you smear it all over your back.

in one Facebook post Cindie, who went viral, wrote: “It takes the heat off him quickly and makes it more comfortable for you. First, buy some menthol foam shaving cream. It has to be the foam and it has to have menthol in it.

“We found Gillette shaving cream on Amazon as we were having trouble finding menthol foam in stores. We ended up buying 6 cans of this but it works because we live in Texas and sunburns are common. (Plus, we gave a few cans to friends.)

“Next, apply the shaving cream to the burn. It might seem like a weird shaving ritual, but trust me! Don’t rub it in, just let it sit on your skin. It’ll start bringing out all that heat (you’ll be able to feel it). You may also feel like itching, but that’s a good thing! Itching is healing.”

Cindie says after 30 minutes the shaving cream should have dissolved into patches and feel dried out.

“You’re going to feel like you’re getting a little cold,” she added. “At least on the sunburned part of the body. THAT’S A GOOD SIGN!

“Next, rinse it off in a lukewarm or cool shower or bath. It’s just to remove the residue.

“If you still need it, do it again the next day. The sunburn usually goes away after this second treatment.

“I use this on my kids too!”

Cindie’s mother-in-law learned the method from a doctor 40 years ago and “thought it was crazy at the time too, until she saw it in action.”

Housewife Cindie has tried aloe vera in the past but finds the shaving cream works much better.

She added: “I’m not saying go out and do this, I was just showing my friends what I do.

“Please remember to always use sunscreen! Too much sun exposure can be dangerous and lead to cancer.

“I’m not advocating going out without sunscreen! I also burn with sunscreen and I know the effort, but it’s worth wearing!

Her ‘miracle’ tip was shared on Facebook by more than 218,000 and inundated with over 46,000 comments from people who have put it to the test as Brits bask in the heatwave.

One person said: “This works great! With aloe you have to reapply it over and over again and it doesn’t help for very long. But the menthol shaving cream stopped the stinging permanently after the first use, and after the second use I hardly even feel the sunburn.”

Another added: “This is a godsend and already saved my life this summer!”
