A Texas mother was at home with her three children who were sleeping when Roman Rodriguez, 41, burst into her home and demanded that she pick up her gun and shoot him
A mother who shot an intruder while her three children slept is reportedly not being charged by police.
The Texas mother, who has not been identified but is believed to be in her 30s, was at home with her three children around 10 p.m. Thursday when she suddenly heard an intruder.
With her three children sleeping upstairs, Roman Rodriguez, 41, stormed into the home, which is adjacent to South Side Lions Park, according to News 4 San Antonio.
A fence surrounding the home was broken into and police took pictures showing the robber entering the property.
The burglar then entered the property through the back door into the laundry room and audibly attempted to break into the main door of the home.
When the mother heard the intruder, police said she took her gun and shot the robber twice in the chest, police said News 4 San Antonio.
And when police got to the scene, they found Rodriguez slumped in a chair in the yard bleeding to death.
A police report confirmed Mr. Rodriguez died of his wounds on the way to the hospital, with the Bexar County coroner stating he died from gunshots to his chest.
The report confirmed that Rodriguez suffered no other injuries and police are still investigating the shooting.
However, the mother is reportedly not being charged due to the state’s Castle Doctrine.
The Castle Doctrine is a legal doctrine that offers defense in the use of force against another person who is unlawfully and violently entering or attempting to enter one’s home, vehicle or place of work.
