A mother has benefited from the baby food shortage by selling more than 113 liters of her own breast milk.

Alyssa Chitti said she froze enough to fill three freezers and then started selling it online as it was easier than donating it to a local milk bank.

The shortage of baby food in the United States has led to reports of recalls and supply chain issues making it difficult for mothers to feed their children Daily Star Reports.

Alyssa has taken on the task of meeting some of the demand and supplying her own breast milk, but said she’s “running out of space” in her home for how much of the stock she can still sell.

Alyssa said: “I think I’m running out of space so I might as well help someone else. I checked it out.

“I’ve been working on this with a group, but my daughter has SMA, and we’ve been in and out of the primaries, and so it was just difficult to do the blood work and all the other stuff, and that’s the only thing that got me stopped me from doing that part.”

The loopholes had to be broken in order for Chitti to donate her milk to a local milk bank, which meant the mother had to sell the excess supply.

Chitti says she was hoping to sell her breast milk for $1 an ounce, or 80p for 28 grams of milk, but is willing to negotiate with some mothers because she understands what they’re going through.

She said: “It made me nervous just because my daughter was very, very colicky.

“And I know a lot of moms need special formulas for babies with upset stomachs, and I know how hard it can be when they’re upset. There is nothing you can do about that stomach ache.”

Buying and selling breast milk online is legal but unregulated, and when Chitty started receiving negative feedback about her decision to sell, she stopped, fox 13 reports.
