A man who repeatedly raped a teenager over 25 years ago has been jailed for ten years.
Liam Carr, 59, was found guilty of sexual assault, anal rape and oral rape of a boy at sites in Co Donegal between September 1995 and September 2000.
In a statement previously read out at Central Criminal Court, Carr’s victim told how he had endured four trials and six years of “utter torture” in his quest to find her. seek justice.
This is the fourth trial that comes after the jurors in the first two proceedings were discharged for legal reasons and the jury in the third trial could not agree on a verdict.
Carr, of Ballina, Falcarragh, Co Donegal, does not accept the jury’s verdict and plans to appeal his conviction, defense attorneys said.
Gerard Clarke SC, prosecutor, said the complainant had allowed Carr to be named, but wanted to remain anonymous.
In his victim impact statement, the now 39-year-old man said his childhood was “robbed” from him due to abuse. He was between the ages of 13 and 18 when the abuse occurred.
He said that from the time he first came to the garden in October 2015 until the grand jury returned to plead guilty in October of this year, it was “six years of total torture” for himself and his wife. he.
He added: “We can’t get on with our lives because of the lengthy court process.”
Mr Justice Keane told the victim he hoped he could “draw strength and comfort” from the jury’s verdicts and wished him and his family well for the future.
