Luxury brand Montblanc opened a store on Dublin’s South Anne Street this weekend in partnership with well-known Irish luxury jeweler Paul Sheeran.
Aul Sheeran is also in the process of opening several luxury watch boutiques on nearby Chatham Street.
Speaking of Sunday independentSheeran said, “One of the big gaps in the Irish market is Montblanc and we were delighted when (owner) Richemont chose us to open a Montblanc in Ireland.
“It was one of those things you can’t say no to.”
He said the new store would involve an investment of 500,000 euros.
Sheeran said a number of luxury brands are beginning to open their own boutiques.
“Our industry is changing a lot and many of the brands are reorganizing distribution around the world, moving away from smaller retail outlets, especially in the luxury world – [but] we bring the experience back to luxury.”
He said that Montblanc, best known for its pens, offers luxury and functionality, and described the range as “business professional” goods.
Sheeran says he’s confident the luxury market will continue to thrive despite mounting recession fears.
“There’s no doubt we’re going through tough times right now, but people are celebrating occasions whether there’s a recession or not.”
He said buying luxury doesn’t have to involve spending 50,000 or 100,000 euros and that Montblanc goods start at just over 100 euros.
Sheeran also said that luxury purchases are more appropriate for brick-and-mortar stores than online.
The Dublin store follows Montblanc’s standalone store in Belfast.
The Paul Sheeran store will soon be operated from three locations: Johnson’s Court Dublin, the newly opened Montblanc boutique and a new store on Chatham Street Dublin stocking luxury watch brands such as Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, Breitling, Tudor, TAG Heuer and more sold by Hublot.
