More remasters and remakes are on the way from Sega

Sega has just released its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022, and on top of the great earnings for the past year, the publisher notes that it will be focused on releasing more remakes and remasters in the future.

By 2026, Sega aims to invest 100 billion yen (about $775 million) to improve its position in the global gaming market – a market the company currently says is expanding. The publisher describes the “entertainment content business” – i.e. games – as “the most important growth area for the future”.

It could be a big year for Sega.

Specifically, the company expects to ship around 13 games in the next fiscal year (that’s March 2022 to March 2023). The Japanese company specifically states that it would like to see a “significant increase in new titles”.

But what could they be? We already know five of them: Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Origins, Soul Hackers 2, Two Point Campus and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for the Nintendo Switch (all of which you should play). That leaves another eight games to launch over the next eight months.

There’s likely to be another Football Manager by the end of the year – that’s a fairly regular addition to Sega’s roster at this point – and Creative Assembly is also working on this mysterious sci-fi FPS. It has been in development since at least 2019, when the developer announced that film director Neill Blomkamp had visited the studio to view the project.

Maybe we’ll hear more about the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei franchises – given the success of Persona 5 Strikers, Shin Megami Tensei 5 and the Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne remaster over the past year, you’d think Sega would be interested in learning about the unstoppable to benefit dynamics of the series. There have already been rumors of a multi-platform remaster of Persona 3 Portable – let’s see if that turns out to be true.

Please bring back Persona 3, Sega. Please.

We already know that Atlus is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Persona series, so it stands to reason that the developer wants something big to mark the occasion. According to Persona’s 25th anniversary website, the next big anniversary reveal is coming in June. Stay tuned folks. More remasters and remakes are on the way from Sega
