South Carolina: Woman ‘clinging to life’ after dog attack
A devastated mother of three woke up from her coma to find both her arms amputated after being mauled by three pit bulls.
Kyleen Waltman, 38, was seriously injured when she was attacked by the dogs while walking on the sidewalk near Columbia, South Carolina last month.
A passerby intervened and scared the dogs away by shooting his gun in the air.
Amy Wynne, Kyleen’s sister, said she also lost part of her colon and may need to have part of her esophagus removed.
She also said that Kyleen was so devastated to learn that she had lost both arms that she asked to be re-sedated.

In an update on GoFundMeAmy recalled the moment her sister woke up from her coma.
She wrote: “Kyleen woke up fully and the doctors told her about her arms but it scared her a lot so they sedated her.
“Her blood pressure is still very high (SIC) and she has a fever of 102+, her oxygen levels keep dropping so she’s back on the ventilator. Mom says it’s like she’s giving up. Before you assume that as your family, we don’t give up.
“The Lord brought her to this point for a reason. Your story is not finished yet. Now they have slimmed down everything on her arms that now she can no longer have normal prostheses.
“So here we are trying to figure out how to stop her from thinking negative thoughts about her life.

“I understand that she has had arms for 38 years and now not as she thinks. She’s still fighting.
“Prayer is working and she’s slowly healing. We just have to wait and allow God and time to work there.”
The fundraiser has raised more than £130,000 so far.
The dogs’ owner, Justin Minor, has been charged with three misdemeanors: possession of a dangerous animal that attacked and injured a human, violating rabies control and dangerous animal not allowed off-site unless restrained . The state announced that.
He was released on £11,427 bail.
Possession of a dangerous animal carries a fine of £3,809 or three years in prison.
Amy said: “It could have been prevented if the dogs had been caged or chained or if they had never been there it never would have happened to begin with.”
The dogs have since been confiscated by Abbeville County Animal Control.
How the animals got onto the sidewalk is unclear.
According to local media, “Beware of Dogs” signs can be seen on Minor’s property.
