A mother of two has died during a medical procedure in Turkey.
Carol Sheehan tragically passed away on April 30 before her remains were returned to her home in Ireland earlier this month.
It was not clear what type of procedure she was undergoing at the time of her death.
Ms Sheehan was originally from Tramore, County Waterford, where she grew up, but had lived in the city.
News spread in Tramore over the following days as people were shocked.
A local told that Irish mirror : “It leaked out and people were absolutely devastated because her family is so well known.
“It’s just very sad for her family and her two children.”
A memorial service was held for Ms. Sheehan at the island’s crematorium on Monday.
She was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth and is survived by her parents, three sisters and one brother.
Hundreds paid tribute to Ms. Sheehan in her obituary, as well as on social media.
Helen Power said: “I will remember Carol as a person full of laughs and with a smiling face whenever you would meet her.
“Gone too soon. Rest in peace my friend. Young forever.”
Catherine West wrote: “Sleep well Carol, you will be missed dearly, you left us with many memories, from toddlers to secondary school and onwards.
“There are so many happy, funny stories. Sending love and strength to the whole family at this time. Fly high.”
The State Department is aware of the case and provided consular assistance to the family, but does not comment on the details.
The number of Irish people traveling abroad for bariatric, cosmetic or dental procedures has skyrocketed at a cost much lower than in Ireland.
