Four black teenagers were stopped and searched by police

A mother is furious after her schoolboy son was handcuffed and forced to lie on the floor as police searched him after she was spotted “fighting” with friends.

Jacqueline Dom said her 14-year-old son Kayden was on his way to a guitar lesson in Newham, east London, when Met police officers showed up.

She said Kayden texted her that he was “so scared” after the incident on Wednesday, May 18 MyLondon.

The teenager was walking past Stratford Park with four friends at around 4.15pm when the boys were subsequently searched before being released.

She said: “Two of the boys fought playfully and next the police jumped out of their van and told them to get down.

“Kayden was also searched by a police officer, which I don’t think was allowed.”

Jackie said that while she understands that police need to respond if they believe a crime is being committed, she believes race was an underlying issue in the incident.

She claims a white boy was also involved in the fighting but was told he was not searched.

Met Police said officers believed the four boys who were stopped and handcuffed attacked the fifth boy, but did not comment on the color of their skin.

“They’re all friends and have been since elementary school,” Jackie continued.

“The problem is that some of the boys told me that it was actually a black boy and a white boy who were joking around.

“If that was the case then why did they just stop and search the black boys in the group and leave the white boy alone? That’s totally wrong.

“In the video you can see an officer speaking to the white boy and being sympathetic and asking him if he has any injuries.

“Nevertheless, the four black boys were thrown to the ground and handcuffed for a playful fight.

“The question is, have you either seen the white boy fight and decided not to arrest him, or have you decided that the white boy was the victim in the case, no matter what.”

The furious maniac added her son was on his way to a guitar lesson in Stratford when the horrific incident happened.

Jackie added: “He was aggressively thrown to the ground and handcuffed.

“I always tell him that if he’s ever stopped by the police to stay compliant and he was, but then to see his friend standing there not being treated the way he was, that’s going to be a long time stay in his memory.

“I’ve had conversations with him about the prejudice and discrimination he will face because he’s black, but it was heartbreaking to watch the video.

“There is no excuse for treating the boys differently.

“Before they saw each other as friends and that they were equal, but because of this experience they will now realize that going forward they will not be treated equally.”

Jackie visited Forest Gate Police Station for answers about what happened.

She said she also asked to see the search’s report and claims she found they listed four black men as searched, but nothing about the white boy.

“I spoke to a parent of one of the other black boys and they said that when their kid came home, they didn’t feel like themselves,” she continued.

“They also said nothing will change, so it’s fine. I just want answers.”

Met Police said: “At 4.20pm on Wednesday 18 May officers from the North East Command Unit were on patrol in West Ham Lane E15 when they witnessed a fight involving a group of male youths.

“Four men were handcuffed and searched at p.1 by PACE.

“Nothing was found and they then set off. Nobody was arrested.

“We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a small snippet of the incident.

“Officials are fully aware that their actions will be subject to scrutiny in the course of their work.

“It is only right that they are accountable for their actions and that is why the local Professional Standards Unit is conducting an investigation into the incident.”
