Mothmen 1966 is a pulp mystery with 8-bit home computer graphics

In 1966, publisher Chorus Worldwide announced Mothmen, a visual novel using classic 8-bit home computer-style visuals to tell a story inspired by mid-20th century pulp fiction. It will be released on Switch on July 14, priced at $8.99 / €7.99 / £6.79.

Developed by LCB Game Studio, the game will be the first in a planned series and will tell the story of a detective, a gas station owner and a romantic couple who investigate the bizarre case of the Mothmen in the West Virginia woods.

Gameplay involves making dialogue choices and actions via on-screen text, inspired by classic choose-your-adventure stories with various puzzles punctuated throughout.

Shintaro Kanaoya, CEO and Founder of Chorus Worldwide said of the game:

“When we first saw Mothmen 1966, we immediately fell in love with the aesthetics and writing style and knew we had to work with LCB Game Studio. What they do with interactive fiction is nostalgic but engaging and accessible to modern audiences. We are very excited to introduce Mothmen 1966 to narrative game fans around the world in July.”
