Muhammad Ali’s grandson Nico Ali Walsh believes he is “bringing his grandpa back to life” after scoring a KO win over Alejandro Ibarra in Las Vegas.
Ali Walsh competed in his fifth pro fight on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson’s win over Oscar Valdez at the MGM Grand. He scored a brutal first-round KO win The crowd chanted “Ali” in tribute to his legendary heavyweight grandfather.
The American middleweight believes his latest win is a testament to the work and dedication he has put in outside of the ring. “I picked him up with my right hand,” Ali Walsh said while evaluating his recent win. “I noticed his left hand went down as he threw the jab. I tried to counteract that and I did. I wish him and his team all the best. He is a true warrior.
“But I was just waiting for this setup and I saw it and used it. This is just a testament to all the work I’ve put in. Things like that happen when you put in the work. I’m bringing my grandpa back to life and that’s why mom gets so emotional because she sees her dad again and she tells me her dad’s name.”
Ali Walsh wants to follow in the footsteps of his legendary relative, arguably considered the greatest contender of all time for his legacy both in and out of the ring. His final victory came after a thunderous one-two pass combination that left his opponent unconscious on the canvas.
Referee Russell Mora immediately stopped the fight to hand Ali Walsh his final win. The 21-year-old has given his pro career a bright star after beating Jordan Weeks and James Westley before being put the distance by Reyes Sanchez last year.
