A mum faced with the prospect of spending nearly 24 hours on a plane with three children has offered complete strangers more than £500 to join her and help.

The concerned mum, named Rachel, is due to fly to Sydney from the UK with her children, aged four, two and two months.

She took to social media to ask for help – and said she was overwhelmed by the response.

Rachel, who lives in Australia, is due to travel to the UK for her brother’s wedding, but her husband is unable to go.

She has offered $1,000 – the equivalent of £570 – for a helping hand.

She called for help looking after children Ivy, four, Stella, two, and little Willow on the Malaysia Airlines flight back to Sydney, writing: “Anybody on his way from London to Sydney earning $1,000 want?”

She continued: “Type of things you might help with: holding the baby so I can help the older girls, helping the 4-year-old and 2-year-old eat, entertaining 4-year-olds and 2-year-olds – puzzles, Sort books, their TVs and headphones, etc.

“It’s a 23.5 hour flight, so essentially $42 an hour, but I wouldn’t expect you to help out with the kids for 24 hours!”

She described her children as well behaved but added: “Whenever the older girls are asleep you wouldn’t have to do anything and even if they’re awake I’m happy they watch as much TV as they like, so all that.” You can then make sure the headphones don’t fall off, put on the next movie, etc.

“I will also do as much as I can, but I also have to take care of the baby.”

Rachel said she was stunned by the reaction

Following her call on a number of Facebook groups, Rachel said Daily Mail Australia that the response was “amazing”.

She said: “I’m actually quite overwhelmed by how kind and supportive so many strangers have been to me.

“Originally I asked my family for help and offered to pay for their flight etc. but I was not happy.

“I mentioned it to a friend who said she found her nanny through a nanny facebook group and a lot of people are from Europe.”

She said that in addition to those who have volunteered their services, some have suggested groups for her to post in.

Rachel told the Mail she is now narrowing down the list of candidates.
