Mum shares a ‘brilliant’ hack to get kids to stop making messes before bed

Monitoring bedtimes for your kids can be a real headache at times, and it can get worse when your little ones always seem to have the most energy at the end of the day when they should be going to bed.

But one mom further tick tock developed it perfect solution to make sure their kids are always quiet before bed – and all you have to do is tell them how much you love them.

Melissa Lea Hughes said in a video that she sits her kids down and tells them five things she loves about them, claiming her brood is always eager to hear what she has to say.

And coupled with a soft voice and calm demeanor, the conversation should get any young child to settle down just in time for bed.

In the video posted on her @mhughes79 account, Melissa talked viewers through the process and said kids are guaranteed to “calm down and listen right away.”

She said: “Just before your kids go to bed tonight, do this one thing if you’re struggling with bedtime.

“Tell them, ‘Can I tell you five things I love about you today?’ You will immediately calm down and listen.

“Once you have your list ready, I guarantee you will. [They’ll say] ‘and what else?’.

“Do it and tell me how it goes. It’s really cute and really fun.”

Commenters on Melissa’s video were quick to praise her technique, with many saying they’ll try the trick for themselves to see if it really helps calm their kids.

One person said, “Wait a minute, I’m going to do this to my son.”

While another added: “Noted. I will do that tonight, thanks!”

And a third wrote: “I’ve been doing this for two nights and it’s brilliant. Thanks!”

Others shared their own experiences of telling or asking their children things about their day to prepare them for the relaxation time before bed.

Someone posted: “I like to ask if mom or dad said or did anything today that made you upset or sad?” My five year old comes up with surprisingly deep answers!”

As someone else commented: “We do, but we tell him what he did today that made us proud. Then we ask him what we have done to make him proud, but he is too young to answer with words.”
